About Step Sequencer
Step Sequencer is a free drum machine that runs in your web browser on phones and computers. You place drum hits on a grid of 16th-note steps, shape each hit, chain patterns into a song and export the result as a WAV file. It is meant for practising rhythm and sketching beat ideas quickly.
What you can do
- Step grid — drag to paint steps on, right-drag (or tap again) to clear them. Each channel has mute, solo, pan and volume.
- Step editor — draw velocity, pan, pitch and timing shift for every step.
- Swing — a global shuffle amount, with a per-channel setting for how much each channel follows it.
- Patterns and song mode — make several patterns (8 to 64 steps), then chain them, each with its own repeat count, into a full song.
- Instruments — kick, snare, clap, closed and open hats, tom and a synth, all synthesised live, plus a sampler that plays your own audio files.
- Save and export — save the project as a file, and export the pattern or whole song as a WAV file.
How it works
Every sound is generated with the browser's Web Audio API, and WAV files are rendered on your device. The site ships no sample library and has no server-side processing: audio files you load into the sampler and the projects you make never leave your browser. Your current project is kept in your browser's local storage so it is still there next time.
Principles
- No uploads. Nothing you make or load is sent to us.
- No sign-up, no payment. Every feature is free; the site is funded by advertising.
- Installable. Add it to your home screen to use it full-screen like an app.
